Our Journey
The vision for BAAVA began in 2016, inspired by a deep love for Bharathanatyam, culture, and community. Guided by Late Dr. Rajanayagam Rajendran, this vision was to create a meaningful and structured platform that would bring together Bharathanatyam teachers across Victoria and support the preservation, assessment, and transmission of Bharathanatyam knowledge.
BAAVA - Bharathanatyam Acharya Association of Victoria, Australia, is dedicated to nurturing the art of Bharathanatyam and its rich cultural heritage in Victoria, Australia. Over time, it has grown into a platform for teachers, students, and families, fostering a strong and vibrant community through its programs, examinations, educational initiatives, and collaborative efforts.
BAAVA remains committed to preserving traditional practices while encouraging meaningful engagement, learning, and continuity for present and future generations. Through examinations, workshops, festivals, and educational resources, the association continues to uphold high standards in teaching, learning, and artistic practice.
Late Dr. Rajanayagam Rajendran was also closely connected to the arts through his spouse, Smt. Dr. Shanthy Rajendran, Director of Nrithakshetra School of Indian Classical Dance. His vision continues to shape BAAVA’s journey and purpose today.
